Christmas in Denver: Let the Holiday Fun Begin

The exterior of Denver’s Union Station is lit up for the holidays.
Denver’s Union Station is one of the prettiest places—inside and out—to spend an afternoon or evening during the holiday season.

The Denver area is beautiful all year, but really shines during the holidays. Take a look at the following festivities and make a plan for a fun holiday outing of your own.

Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens

Blossoms of Light, which runs Nov. 24 through Jan. 1, is a holiday tradition featuring the return of the grand illuminated O’Fallon Perennial Walk and the Romantic Gardens, plus warm drinks, tasty treats and seasonal entertainment.

Hit the Rink

Skyline Park in downtown Denver offers free ice skating from Nov. 22 through Feb. 14. Bring your own skates or rent a pair at the park.

Then Stop by the Christkindl Market

This authentic German Christmas market is open from Nov. 17 through Dec. 23 at Skyline Park. Stop by to warm up with some apple strudel and hot chocolate, then check out the unique goods and gifts for sale, many of which were imported from Germany.

See a Show at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts

You could go old school and get tickets for “A Christmas Carol,” showing Nov. 24-Dec. 24. Or you could check out “The Santaland Diaries,” also showing Nov. 24-Dec. 24. “Elf,” showing Dec. 13-17, rounds out the holiday line-up with the hilarious tale of Buddy the Elf.

Take in the Zoo Lights

Zoo Lights, held at the Denver Zoo from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31, offers 60 acres of illuminated animal sculptures, plus actual animals, live music and a Santa meet-and-greet.

Spend an Evening at Union Station

Starting on Nov. 24, Union Station will be lit up for the holidays. You can enjoy a gourmet meal at Stoic & Genuine or grab a burger at Acme Delicatessen. Or, just stop by for a coffee or ice cram and take in the beauty of this 100-year-old landmark, along with some great people-watching opportunities.
