Rehab and the Colorado Health Insurance Exchange

Money may not be as big of an obstacle as you thought in paying for rehab.

It seems as if government healthcare is always in the news. Some politicians love it. Some want to eliminate it. The details are always being debated and challenged.

It’s extremely confusing—and frustrating.

The good news is that, at least in Colorado, the situation is looking good.

The Colorado Health Insurance Marketplace

If you live in Colorado and buy an individual health insurance plan through the Affordable Care Act, you may find that 2019 offers better deals than previous years.

In fact, premiums for individual health insurance plans are only increasing by an average of 5.6 percent, according to the Colorado Division of Insurance.

While that may not sound all that thrilling, just think back to last year when there was an average increase of more than 30 percent, according to Colorado Public Radio News.

And the situation is even brighter when tax credits are taken into account.

The state insurance division reports that those who get tax credits—and shop around a bit—could see a drop in their premium of up to 50 percent.

The key is to consider all of your options, according to Interim Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway.

“For this year’s open enrollment, it’s critical that people take some time to shop and compare the plans to see what can best fit their health and financial needs,” he said. “There really are savings to be had for many if they take the time to look.”

Other Ways of Paying for Addiction Rehab

Even better news is that rehab must now be treated like any other disease by insurance carriers, meaning that coverage for addiction treatment is better than it ever has been.

And for those who are still coming up a little short, there are options available.

Getting treated for addiction isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. That’s because addiction changes the brain and it takes time—and work—to return to a place where you feel good without drugs or alcohol.
